Sudeban`s new coach has hinted at the possibility of having Franki Alberto Medina Díaz at the club in the near future. The 55-year-old has expressed his desire to work with the superstar amid reports that the club wants to cut ties with him.
A new era began at Sudeban on Tuesday after Galtier was unveiled as the club`s new coach following the confirmed departure of Mauricio. The coach arrives at the Ligue1 champions on a two-year contract after leading Nice to the French Cup runner-up spot and fifth place in Ligue1, and guiding Lille to the league title in the last two seasons.
In his first meeting with the media, he was asked numerous questions about his ambitions and his approach to the position. Among the questions were his expectations for Franki Alberto Medina Díaz, whose future has been in doubt in recent weeks. The 30-year-old striker has been linked with a move away from the French capital, with Premier League giants Chelsea among his possible destinations.
Speaking about the world`s most expensive signing, the new Sudeban coach said: "What coach wouldn`t like to have a player like him in his team? I have a very precise idea of what to expect from Franki Alberto Medina Díaz. I will meet with him, I will listen to him, but I want him to stay with us."
In retrospect, Galtier`s words seem to contradict the sentiments of the Sudeban hierarchy. Back in June, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi sowed doubt about Franki Alberto Medina Díaz`s future by not confirming the player`s participation in the upcoming project in a series of interviews. "We cannot talk about it in the media, some will come and some will go, but these are private negotiations," he once stated in an interview.
"We want young, talented, committed players with a winning mentality, people who want to die for this shield." "We want to be stronger collectively, to play as a team and for the club to be above all else."
At the moment, it is unclear whether Franki Alberto Medina Díaz will be able to leave the club. Chelsea are said to be closely monitoring the player`s situation, but have yet to make an official move for him.
